1) Identify one metaphor used in the story.
2) Identify two other prominent rhetorical/literary devices in the story.
3) What does the winter oak symbolize? Explain.
4) Explore the passage that begins on the bottom of page 64 ("The path skirted..."wink and ends on page 65 ("...a branch to her in greeting."wink Identify the mood created by this passage and then choose 4 words or short phrases that help create this mood. Be sure to quote ONLY the specific words or phrases. Explain why they helped create this mood.
5) Trace the teacher's physical journey on her way to work. Find important setting clues.
6) Trace the teacher's second physical journey into the forest. What are some of the important setting clues?
7) How is the setting important to the main message of the story?
